Awakening is one of the first missions you get after the tutorial. It does this by only editing placement rules while you are in the building editor and not modifying any of the actual base parts themselves. Complete the base building missions with your farmer scientist ect hoard materials in storage boxes.

Following the new Beyond update a whole bunch of new content arrived in No Mans Sky including lots of new ships base upgrades and more. Its where you firs meet artemis which then will lead to ghost in the machine build the mind arc etc. My tip would be to build a scrappy little base some where first.
